When to apply for your spouse as a Tier2 dependent

I see a lot of posts here talking about applying for their spouse to join them on their Tier2 visa only after the wedding has taken place.

What if I want to have the visa issued to my wife before the wedding, so I make sure we travel together to the UK immediately after the wedding.

I already have my legal marriage certificate issued. Is this not enough as proof of marriage?
