I have a Certificate of Sponsorship for a tier 2 general visa (academic, non-ICT), for 1 year. My longtime unmarried partner would like to accompany me. But we were geographically apart for a year one year ago (due to grad school), so may not get the dependent visa.
If we got married tomorrow, and then applied for our visas the next day, could we be rejected on grounds of suspicion of our relationship? Would it help to provide mail from our past year at the same address, get letters of support from friends/colleagues, etc.? Most-helpful responses would contain links to either official rules, or, other people's actual application outcomes. Thanks!
(added: we're both US citizens.)
