Right of Abode (COE) from Chennai

Post by sivarajen_u » Tue Aug 12, 2014 9:27 am

Hello Members,
Here is my situation and I need your valuable advice.
My wife and I are expecting our first baby (in a few weeks from now) and we plan to have the delivery in India due to family reasons. My wife is already in India and I will be joining her soon. For the baby's travel back to UK, this is what I am planning

1. Apply for Indian passport (I want the baby to have Indian passport, so I am applying this by choice)

2. Apply from India for Certificate of entitlement for righ to abode in the UK based on the baby's automatic British citizenship by descent ( I am a naturalized british citizen since Nov 2013)

As far as I understand, below are the supporting documents I need for COE application from India.

1. Baby's Indian passport

2. Baby's full birth certificate showing parents details (my details)

3. My naturalization certificate in original

4. Attested copy of my british passport

I can may be add my wife's passport and visa copy ? I do not see any other document in the guidance from UKBA but I know UKBA guidance is sometimes not exhaustive.

Also on the application, there are sections which are not applicable for minors(ex: finances and employment). How do we handle them? Do we ignore as N/A or fill in parent's details?

Can you please offer your advice on the process and the supporting documents based on your experience? I understand not many would have gone this route, but after reading some posts I understand some members have done it and I am seeking their valuable advice. Many thanks.

Just done my daughters right of abode and it came within 8 days!

Regarding documents fulfill the requirement but also add extra I did so! Like uk proof of address, driving license etc doctors papers for birth etc anything that supports your case and add in a cover letter too :)

For the application such as employment just fill them
Honestly like put £0 for income etc. Also remember! Where it says nationality but british citizen and then add in Indian nationality as secondary. I did this :) any more help pm me I am happy to help

Hello,
Many thanks for the reply.
Just done my daughters right of abode and it came within 8 days
Congratulations!! Did you apply from chennai as well? and is it neccessary to take the baby to VFS for submitting application?
Regarding documents fulfill the requirement but also add extra
I have listed down below what I see as the required documents based on guidance document. can you please confirm if it is ok or if i have missed out anything?
Documents list:
1. Baby's Indian passport

2. Baby's Original birth certificate showing parents details (my details)

3. My naturalization certificate in original

4. Attested copy of my british passport

5. Additional - my wife's passport and visa copy

6. Additional - Latest UK bank statements( for fund maintenance and address proof)

7.Additional - Antenatal documents/hospital reports
For the application such as employment just fill them
Honestly like put £0 for income etc
I am looking at the appilcation form now (VAF7) and it says "finance and employment section" - Not applicable to this type of application and it also says "Travellers under the age of 18" - Not applicable to this type of application. I am confused now. is this how it was when you submitted application? did you not fill in these two sections when you submitted your application?

Once again, Thanks for your time and help!!

Hi,

No I applied from mirpur Pakistan :) we are across the border haha!

Don't forget you will also need:

Your marriage certificate to your wife :) with relevant translations if it is not in English.

Also bank statements is not neccessery as I did not add them in. Deffo add in a cover letter too though.

And are you looking at the hard copy appLication? I think for India it will be an online application using visa4uk as they have changed the system. We applied online then took the printed copy to gerrys. On the online copy for right of abode you have to fill in employment and finances. For finances I put everything £0
Apart from the section it says "is anyone else funding your trip" where I put in £500 for the ticket I would pay for my daughter.

For all the sections I answered them truthfully like named my parents who are British in the application as it asked for any other family who is in uk.

Basically give as many documents as possible and answer clearly and it should be processed quickly :)

Hello,
one quick question, as I am planning to submit the application soon. You mentioned you provided proof of address as well as supporting document. Can you please let me know what proof of address you added? Do we need to include rental agreement etc? Thanks!!

Siva
