Help needed - visa/immigration

Post by markiboy1 » Sun Aug 17, 2014 10:24 pm

Hi everyone. I've just joined this forum so thank you for reading and for any help that anyone can provide. I am from Northern Ireland and my partner is Chilean currently working in Beijing as an architect (visa funded by employer).

We are hoping to get a civil partnership next year once his contact in Beijing has finished, but have concerns over the job market in architecture in the uk.

He has expressed the desire to work in Europe and I'm happy to commute as I have a good work life balance in my job but skid have the added complication of recently just purchasing a house (not really feasible for me to also relocate at this time)

So my question is, if we are to get a civil partnership in the uk, can he work in Europe. I doubt that he would have the same rights to work in the EU?

Next question, if this isn't possible then has anyone had any experience in terms of working visas in Europe? Is it the employer who arranges this? Do employers tend to sponsor or is it at the expense of the employee?

Is it expensive to get a working visa? Are there any non EU architects out there that have any experience of working in europe that they could discuss with me.

I would really appreciate any help!

Thanks in advance.

He can't work in EU without a Work Permit. He could if you moved to EU and he moved with you. You can't 'commute' though, you have to relocate.

AFAIK all EU state require a Work Permit to employ a non-EU. UK used to have T1 Gen, I believe NL did too at one time which allowed the person to apply for the WP/visa rather than the employer. So the the absence of those he will be required to find a sponsor willing to sponsor a WP, no easy task.

I'm not an architect but I'd imagine there'd be language issues to contend with as well as transfer of qualifications to the new country, may need to convert or retrain, not something WP sponsors are interested in really...
