Is the EEA Family Permit obligatory for me?

Post by plilith » Mon Aug 18, 2014 4:45 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm a Singaporean, married to a French citizen. We're currently living in France and we are planning to leave for London in Oct as he has a job waiting for him there. As a Singaporean, I know that I can legally enter the UK and stay there for up to 6 months without a visa.

I'm wondering if it's obligatory for me to apply for an EEA family permit before applying for an EEA2, or could I just go to London as a tourist and apply for the EEA2 directly when we've settled down.

Also, I think I'll have to go back to Paris for some appointments in the near future, after our move.

Thanks for your help!

It isn't mandatory, but it will assist in proving your rights to work if you are looking to search of employment upon entry.
