What is this article got to do with 4-5 yr change?

I thought it is more to do with the HSMP changes, unless I am missing something

Agree with Olisun nithing to fo wiht chaging qualifyig year for ILR 4-5 years. But it is a good point to start for Unfair changing of restrospective HSMP rule.

If you go and read the parliamentary committee report, you will see that it also applies to the change from 4 to 5 years because it is viewed that this law has been applied retrospectively as opposed to progressively, which in itself is unfair as it breaks the original agreement and causes personal and financial hardship.

Isnt there another thread discusses this more profusely?

I don't know. I'm just passing on what I read in the Parliamentary committee report.

I'm sorry, I'm new on here. Someone asked a question and as I have read the report, I answered it.

Thank you Christophe. :)

At the moment I'm trapped by bum timing on the ILR retrospective ruling... I'll be paying out my £595 tomorrow for an extension to my Ancestral Visa when I would have been apply for ILR tomorrow, if the Government had not put their retrospective rules in place.

I shall have to grin and bear it tomorrow!! :(

I guess the only way to look at it is that, in the overall scheme of life (and assuming of course that it can be afforded at the time), £595 is not a lot of money. However, it will still provoke a sharp intake of breath when you pay tomorrow...

Yes, I do try and fall back on that logic... but it does still annoy me! I find it quite ironic when you consider that the banks are not supposed to charge you more than it costs to process various services, yet the Government can charge what they like because ultimately, they have us by the short and curlies!!!

I will put a positive spin on it though and at least know it is one step closer to citizenship!!! :)

Don't feel lonely, many of us Acestral types have now fork out for the extention, which is painful.

But the next part is even worse, £950 ILR and a year later £750 for Naturilisation.

Oh and I forgot £35 for the Englishness test and £100 odd quid for your passport.

I'm hoping that the JR will bring some releaf, but I don't hold out too much hope.

Watch the space!

Good luck - I hope it goes well: as you say, there's no reason to suppose that it won't. Let us know how you get on...

Well, £595 later and 4 hours spent waiting and I have my extension... phew!!!

Got there, went throught the 'airport style check-in', handed over all the documentation and specified which birth certificates belonged to whom. I was told to return 1.30 hrs later and did so, only to be told to got back to the counter and to get asked AGAIN about which birth doc belonged to whom (can't they read?)... the 2.30 hrs later I was handed my passport with limited leave to remain for 5 years... so the process starts all over again in a year with ILR.... oh well... best I start saving!!!

It is a relief though, to have another step out the way.

Is it?
£750 for ILR (£950 premium)
£575 for naturalisation
£66 for first adult passport.

Well, I mean it is still expensive, but certainly not £100 for a passport.
