PR and divorce after

Post by Stoli » Thu Aug 21, 2014 1:30 pm

When a person who has obtained Permanent Residence gets a divorce - does that person need to do something like obtaining a right to remain? - also, it happened so I got the PR only in May this year, but after almost 8 years of marriage we are getting a divorce this September. Even to me the timing seems suspicious of deceit, but.. such were the circumstances. Can they revoke my PR on suspicion of fraud?

I thought of another couple of worrying moments:
- given the circumstances (intend to stay in UK, no longer spouse of EU national) could this divorce cause problems when applying for UK citizenship? - expecting to do so early summer 2015. The whole applying for citizenship seems so scary now..
- whenever I enter the UK I get asked questions like "who is your EU sponsor and where are they now"?.. After the divorce, what do I say? - again, do I need to obtain something to show that I have a PR, but no longer have a sponsor?
- also, if UK does manage to think of a way of leaving the EU in 2017 my EU residence may become a shady thing to have as means of staying :)

PS> obviously I am a non-EU married (not for much longer) to an EU

PR will be fine.

It only elapse following absence from the UK for more than 2 years, or serious grounds of Public Policy.

Sorry to hear about your divorce. Note that once you get PR you are no longer dependant of your EEA national, accordingly you are free and PR will not be revoked just because you divorce. You PR stamp being in your passport you can apply for citizenship just by providing that. and if an immigration officer ask you well just tell them you are now divorce and as holder of permanent residency there is nothing to worry about.
GOD BLESS!!!
