French schengen - do we have to pay a booking fee for flight

Just wondering if they've changed the rule as they are getting stricter now. Can we just book our flight via flightcentre or sta and not paying any booking fee in advance? will the french embassy accept this ?

I beg your pardon? There's no need for that. It's quite possible to drive, via ferry or Channel Tunnel, no need to book in advance.

I got my schengen visa last month, they didnt ask for any flight booking or travel confirmation.Just hotel booking was enough

The short answer is that your flight (or Eurostar ticket or ferry ticket) has to be confirmed and fully paid for. Generally your hotel booking only has to be confirmed.

If you drive to France the embassy will still want to see evidence of how you are going to get there, i.e. Ferry booking or Eurotunnel booking. No booking = no visa.

Yeah. Why on earth would I drive? I don't even have a car.

So they also ask for photocopies of documents. I've done it but do I have to make one for my passport?

Sheesh, he is offering options so you don't have to book a plane or train ticket. Try to be more openminded and receptive, after all you are the one asking for help.
If you say you are driving then you only have to show a hotel booking, but I guess that's too brilliant for you to grasp.

Sheesh? You sheesh. He's known for taking a piss in the forum. Everyone knows that and you're talking about being respectful?! Even if he wasn't taking a piss here, how would I know he's not, given the infamous well being of his. You two are 1 coin each side, which I don't blame you. He says himself as an old grumpy man everyone should watch out for.

Anyway, most people here are very helpful. I think i've got everything I wanted.

If I was 'taking the piss' - which I wasn't BTW, I'd have suggested you swim the channel or paraglide off Beachy Head.

Hard to see how suggesting you drive, and take either the ferry or tunnel, is "taking the piss". How are we supposed to know you can't drive?

Actually, as I pointed out, that is incorrect. If you tell the embassy you are driving then you will have to produce a paid-for booking showing how your car is going to be transported to France, which implies either a ferry booking, or a Eurotunnel booking.

I'm sure my good buddy's Russian missus wasn't asked to provide this by the French but then again, she's married to and was accompanied by an UK cit. so maybe no need in those circumstances.

Yeah, people applying for Schengen visas who are spouses of EU citizens and are going to be travelling with them are not required to provide any proof of travel or hotel booking or financial standing.
