Tier-1 general partner visa extension or entry clearance

Can someone share their experience of extending Tier-1 general partner visa from india before its expiry.
If so does it count towards continuos residence requirement for ILR?
My wife got her intial Tier-1 partner visa in March 2013, joined me here in June 2013.(less than 90 days).
she got her visa until Jan 2015.
Can she travel to India now and extend her visa for another 3 years?(post july 2012 rules apply)
If a new Entry clearance issued before the current visa expiry resets her Qualifying period for ILR? or
Will it be counted as contious stay?
Additional info:
My ILR is due this September 2014,I will apply for my indefinite leave first.
and planning to apply her visa in January 2015.
shecan spend time with family during festive season in january and apply for the visa at the same time(entry clearance again)

Any help will be much appreciated..

As it might help many people whose partners fall under post july 2012 rules.

Applying from outside the UK, is entry clearance and not extension. So her ILR clock would get reset, if she applied from India.

Best thing to do is to apply for an extension from within the UK.

But i would like to know If a new Entry clearance issued before the current visa expiry can be counted towards residence requirement for ILR.
As both are Tier-1 general partner visas.
Iam still confused or am i missing something.
Please guide me through policy guidance where it is mentioned.

Note: Iam happy to apply for her extension in UK. But to clear my ambiquity.
