Help with Tier 2 General - Shortage Occupation Visa

Post by CanadianEH » Fri Aug 29, 2014 3:51 pm

Hello,
I need a bit of help here. I was looking at which work visas best suited my needs and at first the Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa seemed like the best option. My intention is to simply work abroad.

I met all the requirements for the Tier 5 visa, however, i came across the Tier 2 General - Shortage Occupation visa. I see that my job is listed as one of the occupations that is in need. I can see that for this Visa i'd have to be sponsered. Would that make it more difficult to find a job? Seeing as the employer wouldn't want to go through the hassle of sponsering someone?

Also, am I mistaken or can you only work up to 20 hours a week with this type of Visa?

Would I be better off applying for the Tier 2 General Visa seeing as my job is listed as one of the ''shortage occupation'' jobs?

Please let me know.

You cannot apply for any Tier 2 without a sponsor FIRST. You must apply for (and be accepted for) a job and the sponsor has to go through the sponsorship process before you can apply for the visa. This process is slightly less onerous for the employer when applying for a job which falls under 'shortage occupations' from the official list.

You can work full time (in fact, because of the strict earnings it is very difficult to work LESS than full time).

Alright thanks for the response!
I was/am under the impression that by having to be sponsered, it'd be difficult. Seeing as the employer would have to go through all that. I guess I am mistaken?

So ideally, i'd have to get my licence to practice in the UK first and then start applying. Once I find a job, i'd have to be sponsered by the employer and get the Visa process started.

The only part i'm somewhat worried about is finding a job at the hospital. (Im a medical radiographer). Im assuming most of/all potential jobs are posted online somewhere correct?
