no reply from home office

In 1994 I arrived in England on a visiting visa . I later applied successfully for a 2 year working visa. In 1996 I married my wife and subsequently applied for leave to remain in the UK .
We heard nothing from the home office for about four years . We got a letter from the home office in 2000 stating that I had not shown enough proof that I won’t have recourse to public funds. (I have never received any form of public funds)
We have appealed to the home office since being denied and we have not heard anything from the home office . I am a Software Engineering graduate from a British University .I am finding it difficult to find proper jobs as I have no proper documentation to show employers .
I am now thinking of changing lawyers as I feel things are moving pretty slow. Please advise .

I am really sorry that HO have not yet resolved your issue - I hear appeals other than (Assylum appeals) take a really long time.

Obviously sine your case is pending you are entitled to Work legally - therefore you can freely change jobs..if asked about your ppt by a new employer - you need to provide evidence to prove that it is with HO.

My worry is that the immigration appellate could have replied to you already at your old address - assuming you changed address. Have you kept HO/immigration appellate updated with your address?

The other issue - is do you have very strong compassionate reasons for requiring your case to be resolved ASAP?

In 2000 you appealed against Home office decision and have not heard any thing since.

I have read the response from chess and Kayalami. THEY ARE RIGHT.

There are two problems here.
1-Proceeding
2-The immigration issue.

You can not address the immigration issue without proceedings. Therefore you need to know what has happened to your appeal first.
Heard without your attendance?
Dismissed?
Pending?
Other?

Please ask your MP to write to the Home Office and Immigration Appellate Authority in order to reveal what has happened to your appeal and speed it up if still pending.

Please make sure that all your correspondences are sent with ‘signed for’/ ‘Recorded’ delivery. They should be also concise and to the point. Specify time then follow up.
