Should we apply for 6 months are 2 years visa

Post by stitaprajna » Thu Sep 11, 2014 9:55 pm

My wife is a British citizen and I am on a dependent visa.

Her parents want to visit us on family visitor visa. We have confusion about the duration for which we should apply.
Visa fee for 6 months is £60 and for 2 years it is £300. If we apply for 2 years but get approval only for 6 months then visa fee of £240/person (total £480 for 2 people) is a wasted/lost.

What is the possibility of getting a 2 year visa? Any suggestions?
Many Thanks,
Stit

Unlikely for the first application.

Forgot to mention that, they had visited earlier for couple of months about 4-5 years back.
Many Thanks,

In which case you may be successful

Thanks Casa.

I am not sure on what visa they visited earlier. Does it matter if they had visited on tourist visa or family visitor visa?

Is there any way we can increase the chances of getting the 2 year visa? Like showing the financial proofs etc.
One option we can try is: apply for 2 year visa for one person and if it works then apply for the second person. That we we may end up loosing only £240 instead of £480. But, can applying separately have any impact on the visa duration?
Many Thanks,

Do you realise that they can only stay 6 months in any 12 months, even on a 2 year visa?

It's important to show they have strong reasons to return to their home country.

OK. Just checking coz some people think a long visit visa means they can stay for longer than 6 months, overstay and then get problems.

Thank you Casa.
What are the valid reasons?
They are retired and have house, vehicles, and business in India. Also, one son and his family is in India. They will be visiting their daughter in UK.
Many Thanks,
