Travelling to India after taking British citizen Oath

Post by JShah27 » Sun Sep 14, 2014 10:22 pm

Hi Guys,

Need a big help.
My Indian passport is expired and applied for british citizen, received ceremony invitation letter. The question is ''Can I renew my Indian passport after or before taking oath even though British citizen application has been approved. Need to travel to India in oct. but as heard about delays in passport services I really don't want to waste my holidays.
Please help guys as am really confused.

You can renew indian passport before the oath ceremony. Once you have received the new passport, you can attend the oath ceremony, then travel to india with indian passport and surrender indian passport upon return.
(or perhaps attend the oath ceremony after your return from india...you need to attend the cermony within 90 days of approval)

once you attend the oath ceremony you become British so you'll be committing offence if you apply for indian passport renewal after the ceremony.
