P800 and naturalisation application - URGENT

Post by neo.kap » Fri Sep 19, 2014 8:05 pm

i just got a question and i know you guys can help.

"does underpaid tax effect naturalization application, even though the p800 clearly says i dont need to do anything and underpaid tax is already being collect in 2014 through my tax code??"

I am on PAYE working with one employer only and do not file self assessment.

underpaid is because my previous employe did not included benefit in kind amount in PAYE code and later they sent details to HMRC and HMRC adjusted my tax code accordingly to collect underpaid tax.

please guys i am just looking for peace of mind.please help

If your employer did not include BIK and forget to send details on P11D form in time to HMRC and later rectify it then you don't need to worry about it .you will be fine.

what is P800

At the end of every tax year your employer or pension provider sends HMRC details of how much income you have received, the tax you have paid and company benefits you have received during the year.
If you haven't paid the right amount of tax, you'll receive a P800 Tax Calculation telling you what HMRC considers the correct amount to be and whether you have paid too much or too little.

If you still worried and need full satisfaction then you can request to HMRC for your last year employment history letter :)

I already called HMRC and they told that BIK was not included in PAYE code during 2012-13 and 2013-14 year. hence the underpayment and now they have adjusted PAYE code for this year and already collecting underpaid tax in 2014 tax code and will collect remaining in 2015 code.

Do you think I should call HMRC and pay the entire underpaid tax now before applying for naturalization? its just £600 and part of it hey already collected through 2014 code.

For the safe side if you want you can pay it.
But in employment earnings as per my understanding if employer did any mistake it wont come on applicant because employer is responsible for deducting right amount of taxes from employee salaries and BIK because every employee is not an accountant and don't have expertise on HMRC tax calculations rules. so its not your mistake and by law you wont get punish on this.
as I said if your employer now rectify it then you don't need to worry about it.
in HMRC record now your previous earnings including BIK are up to date. so you can request them to send your employment history letter.

do you think I should request employment history letter and attach with naturalization application? or I am worrying unnecessarily.
