Tier 2 visa question

Post by ab713 » Wed Oct 01, 2014 2:30 pm

Hello,

Setting the scene: I have completed my 2 years of masters degree from a UK university on 15th September,2014. I have got the job offer from a software company. I came to UK on 1st September,2012. My employer is a UK sponsor and will issue a certificate of sponsorship.

Question:
I would be switching from Tier 4 student visa to Tier 2 visa. My question is for how many years should I apply visa for 3 years or 5 years?
I am looking to get Indefinite leave to remain in UK so I wanted to know will my 2 years of education in Tier 4 visa plus 3 years in Tier 2 will be counted for 5 years?

I hope my question is clear and looking forward to hear soon.

Regards,
Anup

Anup,

Your two years on Tier 4 visa do not count for ILR (five years Tier 2 migrant) but do count for ILR (10 years Long Residence). IMO, if your job offer is for a permanent position and you can afford the fee, apply for the full 5 years, that way you'll be all set for success with ILR after 5 years on T2G.

All the best :)

Anup,

The below is exactly right in your case. Direct 5 years on T2G will count towards ILR for T2 while your 2years T4 and 3 years T2 will count as part of your accruement towards 10 years ILR.

Hope this helps.
