Hi,
I recently received British Citizenship through Naturalisation and applied for OCI Card after surrendering Indian passport. My OCI application was not accepted at the embassy as I am working for Home Office and embassy considers ‘Home Office’ employees not eligible for OCI. I explained them that as per Eligibility rule 1 in the HCI London Website(https://www.hcilondon.in/oci.html), only people working for foreign Defence, Military, Police and Security agencies are not eligible but I am only a Software Engineer working for Home Office and don’t fall into any of the above category. But they refused to accept my application stating that Home Office is also included in the list. (I am not sure why they have not mentioned these information clearly in the website)
1. Has anybody had the same experience? if yes, please let me know how you handled it? (I read a post where Job description was requested in addition after accepting application of a Council Worker (UK Government Employee) but my case is different as my application was not accepted at all and I work for Home Office)
2. Can I apply for the ‘Long Term Entry visa – 5 Years’ though I work for Home Office?
3. If I move out of Home Office to a new employer (non Government), will I be eligible for OCI card though I have worked or Home Office?
4. As per FAQ 17, 18 (https://www.hcilondon.in/oci.html), Software Engineers working for Ministry of Defence are not eligible for Home Office. But they have not mentioned anything regarding Software Engineers who have worked for Ministry of Defence. Are they eligible? I am asking this question to be clear so that I can decide whether I should work for Ministry of Defence, if I get an opportunity in future.
Please advice.
