Post Study Work to Tier 2 After Expiration of Leave

Hi All,
I am currently on Post study work visa and my leave expires in two months. my employer has applied for Tier 2 licence and it would take about 8 weeks standard processing time. It may take longer or the application may get refused as you never know. in that case I fear I would have to apply tier 2 after my visa has expired. somebody was telling me that I would able to apply after 28 days of my visa expiration but I could not find such information online on government website. please help? Will I still be able to apply after expiration of psw visa and also if you could be able to provide relevant link
