Day to day stuff until EEA2 Residence card is received

Post by JFS » Mon Oct 20, 2014 3:36 pm

Hi all,

I am trying to open a bank account for my wife (non EEA national) who is here in the UK on an "EEA Dependent" stamp (what was formally the Code 1A and which actually reads "Admitted to the United Kingdom under the EEA Regulations".
As you can imagine, the process of explaining the situation to the bank staff (so far I have only tried Natwest) has been unsucessful as the bank still asks for a visa, etc.

We will of course apply for her RC later this week to avoid this "being inconvenienced" part. However, I was wondering if someone has been successful in opening a bank account in similar circumstances with another bank, perhaps? I imagine that, once we receive the COA, then this should be easier, right?

Thanks
J

Cooperative Bank opened an account for my civil partner with his EEA family permit and a TV license. I don't know how they would deal with code 1A, but they were lenient with the address proofs.

Worth a try!

I managed to open bank accounts in Barclays and Lloyd with my family permit. Did'nt had any problems at all. Does the stamp shows expiration date or until when it will be valid? Cause Lloyds asked me if i have residency and I said not at the moment as I just came last June and she asked when will my visa expired, I said it is valid until December and she said "Oh ok, think it will be fine."
