Can we transfere to company UK branch with T2-General visa?

Dears,

My husband got an opportunity to be internally transfered from China branch to UK branch. I notice that with 5 years' Tier 2-intra company transfer visa can no longer apply for an UK PR((‘indefinite leave to remain’). So i am wondering if we can apply for T2-General visa in stead? Our goal is to setttle in UK, so it doesn't make sense if we can only live up to 6 years there... I don't know how can the burea judge if you should apply for T2-general or T2 ICT. Can my husband quit this job first and ask company to re-hire him, if he must apply ICT if he got internal transfer?

Sure it is possible, technically he is a new employee joining the UK company so it is possible for them to apply for a Tier 2 General visa as long as the company agrees to do so.
I moved from Asia Pacific to the UK entity and came under a Tier 2 General visa, it was one of the conditions for movement so just make your ambitions clear and put it forward as one of the conditions of movement; if they really want your SO they will agree.
