Action when EEA visa application time has exceeded 6 months

Post by Emmet » Sat Nov 15, 2014 11:14 am

Hello all,

As you know, the maximum length that an EEA visa application is supposed to take to process is 6 months. This seems long enough already, but many applications are exceeding this time, and there is no clear course of action to take in this circumstance.

I made my application in March 2014. After six months passed, I expected a reply any day, but none came. After another month I wrote to the Home Office asking as to the progress of the application, and requesting a speedy conclusion noting that the maximum time had been exceeded. A couple of weeks later some enforcement officers visited my residence to check up on me and my wife in our absence, I'm not sure if this was a direct response to my letter.

Another month later, and still no response has come. It is now more than 8 months since applying. If there is no way to call or email the Home Office, and writing mail to them produces no reply, what can one do?

I have asked Linda Bateman about this in the past; she said that she will authorize an extension if she sees fit. You can contact her on: Linda.Bateman@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk. Be VERY polite and be careful with how you phrase things. She is very efficient but she is also VERY strict. She might give you some insight into why your application is taking longer than expected.
