Tier 4 - General Visitor - Tier 2

Hi,

I am currently on a Tier 4 student visa which expires on 27/01/15. I have an offer from employer that agrees to sponsor my Tier 2 visa. The job starts in July 2015, so the visa process will only be started 3 months prior this date. My goal is to stay in the UK during this gap between expiring of student visa and obtaining a working visa.
The first thing that comes to my my mind is to obtain a tourist visa for 6 months.
Questions:
- Is procedure of switching from student visa to tourist visa being in the UK any different from obtaining a tourist visa from abroad?
- What would be the documents needed? In particular the evidence of available finances.
- Are there any other options apart from obtaining a tourist visa?

You can't apply for a tourist visa from within the UK.

You do know that you'll have to get a Restricted CoS and apply from out of the country for your Tier 2 General. You will also need to pass the RLMT.
