Are Tier 2 Employees eligible to vote in UK ?

Post by tier2struggler » Sun Dec 14, 2014 11:35 am

Hi All,
I was just going through some immigration news in UK and observed that there is lot of issue about it and discussion going on to cut down the number.
Was following UKIP party leader "Nigel Farage". He mentioned in one news that he want to have "Point Based immigration system" that is still available in USA, Australia, New-Zealand etc and also mentioned to bring skilled people. I think It's good to vote him. I know when labour party was there, there are lot of people came on HSMP and Tier 1. Not sure about their plan now.

Why don't we vote them? I think we have right to vote in UK election as we are Commonwealth citizen.
And to register, the link is as below. Please add your opinion. Just thinking it will be good if PBS get less scrutiny.

Personally, I don't agree with less scrutiny with PBS system. I would rather make it more fool-proof so that those who are misusing it (and there are quite a few around), cannot break the system. And not sure of you've read the issues properly. The issue is not the current Tier 1 / 2 system. These nos. are already under control now because of the cap. The issue which UKIP is highlighting is the no. of folks coming to UK from EU. There is no current system to keep a tab on them. I don't know if that is really deteriorating the economy or helping it. But, running an economy is much more than just controlling the immigration nos. They need to bring out a more robust plan for UK to garner support from UK people.

I have read about the news of open door from EU to UK. No restriction - no criminal check, no skilled check etc.
But scrutiny is more for people coming with Tier 2, which are skilled workers with quality. I am not telling to stop scrutiny with PBS system. But you know about the process of Tier 2(G) going through tricky stuff like RLMT to justify you could not find any settled worker etc., then only select a skilled worker. But I would suggest - let's select the best one. For that, you don't need to do RLMT to justify, but follow a proper interview selection process.
Nigel mentioned the same in some of the news that due to open of EU to UK, there are huge of flow of non-skilled worker. But indirectly they are stopping skilled worker, which is not good. See the link below

I don't see anything wrong in giving preference to local settled worker. All economies do that. Atleast they allow companies to select a skilled worker if they cannot find anyone locally. There are countries that do not allow that and are forced to keep the vacancies open for months or maybe years. You talk about proper interview process. Who will decide if the interviews were conducted properly? Don't expect home office to scrutinize each and every interview process! I think it will just increase abuse of the system. I agree that the current system is not 100% correct (it has its own flaws), but i think it's much better than most of other countries.

UKIP may be right in their claim, but I would like to see more facts in coming months which support their claims!

@Moonlight,
You are absolutely correct.
I was just thinking from Tier 2 prospect and given my opinion on the same. If anybody has other opinion, please share.
My main topic was -
1. Are Tier 2(G) eligible to vote as from Commonwealth citizen ? I think yes.
2. If yes, why don't vote someone which might be beneficial for skilled worker.
3. Voting UKIP - Nigel ?
Note : Don't think I am campaigning for him. :)

One more video from Nigel Farage. Really happy to see him highlighting about bringing skilled people from India and NewZealand etc.
guys, plan to vote him. It will be really helpful to people already in Tier 2 VISA and those who are skilled and planning to come.
