Tibetan Medical Doctor

Post by nmethyl4 » Mon Sep 03, 2007 8:27 am

Hi All,

I have a friend who is one of the doctors of the Dalai Lama (the leader of Tibet) who wishes to immigrate into England. Although his qualifications take over 20 years (and he has recommendations from diplomats) they are not formally recognised by our immgration system (?) - hence I'm hesitate to try the highly skilled migrant route. Another option is to setup a company and employ him - though the company is not started up yet and would only employ him... so I'm after general advice. He already has a thriving patient base in this country already and would need to travel abroad to fulfill his commitements overseas.

thanks for any suggestions

.

Topic moved from 'Other countries.'

The topic is about possible immigration routes into the UK. not into other countries.

To qualify for HSMP, does he have any university degree(s)? How is his English? What has his income level been over the past several years ... AND, which country was the income received in? Meaning, what country was his residence?

Are his qualifications from universities or some sort of higher-learning facilities/institutions? If they are not 'mainstream,' then maybe some equivalency can be negotiated/agreed upon with one or more UK universities.

Does he meet the English language and the points requirement?

If not, then he needs to consider other routes.

Purely on a personal level, I think there is quite enough non-scientific medicine here in the UK already!
I am not, and cannot, offer legal advice to particular people. I can only discuss general areas of immigration law.

People should always consider obtaining professional advice about their own particular circumstances.

I agree there’s enough non-scientific medicine. Nay, there’s already too much of it. But there’s also too much of faith healing, contacting the spirits, lifestyle gurus…and we put up with all of them. Heck, what’s fashion but an idiotic following of somebody else’s demented dress sense? I'd ban it before banning acupuncture. But, it's a free country...

nmethyl4, I wish your doctor friend all the best, even though we don’t know what form of medicine he practices. Setting up a company purely to get him over likely won't work. Perhaps an existing, well established private medical company can help.

Did you see "Enemies of Reason", on Channel 4 recently? A 2-parter.

I have great respect for Dawkins and his work, but he can be a plonker sometimes.

Like his blind support for vaccinations in this TV program. For a man so steeped in scientific arguments he's pretty ignorant about vaccinations. I won't make this into an argument about whether MMR is safe or unsafe - there are good arguments on both sides. But his disdain for any talk of government conspiracy is ignorant. The official NHS line that my GP and local pediatric consultant take is that there are no deaths as a direct result of the DTP or MMR. However, in government, it is accepted that the vaccines cause deaths in some cases and I can provide Hansard records of debates where the only argument isn't whether the MMR causes deaths but whether it's the government or pharma companies who should be paying compensation to the affected families.

That modern medicine is a miracle is not in doubt. But by sticking his head in the sand about the numerous deaths and disabilities caused by various big pharma companies chasing profits over safety devalues his otherwise good program. Modern medicine may be good but the same can't be said for all the people in that business and you can't therefore blindly trust it like he would like you to.
