Applying ILR from Ancestry

Post by peta1 » Fri Sep 07, 2007 1:38 pm

Hi there,

Hoping someone could help ease my mind!! I am an Australian citizen and I came to th UK on 30th May 2002 on an ancestral visa. I was in full time employment until August 2003, and then I travelled around the UK for 3 months, before leaving the country for another 3 months, totalling 6 months unemployed (I did however do a few days temping during this break). I began employment again in March 2004 and this has continued until present.

When I extended my ancestry visa to cover the extra year after the 5 year rule was introduced, the case officer gave me an extra four months to cover this three month absence from the UK (this was extended to 30th Sept 2007). My only concern is this long gap of unemployment. I have read that this is not a major concern for ancestry visa, as long as I can prove employment for the last 3 months. Is this the case? There does not seem to be anything on the form asking about employment?

Also to add to this I lost my passport during my 5 years stay, will this cause a problem when proving absences from the UK? I do have a copy of my entry stamp on the 30th May 2002, and have sinced replaced my visa in my new passport.

Thanks so much for any help you can offer me!
