waiting time, traveling separate?

Hi all
we applied for the 6 months permit and are now waiting.... We could only get an appointment after 3 weeks and now are running short on time as we fly to Edinburgh on the 21st.
I am just wondering if we dont get it in time if i should go ahead as the EEA spouse and change only my husbands flight? Will there be any trouble if he travels without me as we said on the application we would travel together on the 21st?
