Polish national applying for provisional driving license?

Hello, I'm Polish and I lived and worked in England for 10 years. I would like to apply for a provisional driving license with the DVLA. I have a biometric Polish passport and a Polish Identity Card. Am I required to send one of these documents to DVLA in order to successfully apply? Or can they just proof-check them at the post office for me and send copies? I'm a bit unclear after reading the info on their website.
Also, can the photograph for the license be taken in one of those photo-ID booths or do I need someone at an approved post office to take it? I've seen them reject photobooth pictures of an English friend before and I don't want to waste money if they really don't accept them.

With the current rules, the ONLY option is to send your Polish Passport to the DVLA.

In the past, you were able to take them to a local DVLA office (which have all been closed down a few years ago) and get them attested but the rules have changed since.

Unless you're willing to take the trip to DVLA in Swansea, you have no option but to send your Original passport to DVLA. Photocopies or even attested copies are no longer accepted.

If you worried about the passport being lost in the post (which the DVLA are widely known for losing items) I would advise you send your passport via Special Delivery and also include a pre-paid Special Delivery envelope (with your address written on it) for the return of your passport (You can buy them from the post office). Just make you note all the details from the pre-paid return SD envelope.

As for the photo, a photo booth is fine. Just follow the criteria on the form for what is allowed and what isn't allowed.
