Baby born in UK, need info on how to get Indian passport?

Post by Madhavan2015 » Fri Jan 02, 2015 4:36 pm

Hi,

I am looking to get information on how to get Indian passport for baby born in UK in Dec 2014. Things I have done so far is-
1. Got the UK full birth certificate.
2. Filled Registration of birth of a minor child at an indian consulate under section 4(1) of the citizenship act, 1955 -> http://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/I ... ormcode=09
3. Schedule an appointment for submitting Registration of birth of a minor child at London office. They have stopped post service. Spoke to not at all friendly and rude guy on 02078368484. He was not ready to give me any further information and keep telling me to visit https://www.hcilondon.in/. Website is itself so helpful in its own way, so have to ask people here. :(

Please could you help me to get answer on my questions-

1. Do I need to take my spouse for Registration of birth? Due to health reason she can't travel from Great Yarmouth to London.
2. Do they need photos of child? I already photo printed 8 photos of 35*35 mm and 45*35 mm, just to avoid send back.
3. Do they accept special delivery envelope to get my stuff back, instead of me going again?
4. If not, when and how they inform that Regitsration of birth of a minor child is done and come and collect certificate?
5. It is quite intimidating after seeing the rude and corrupt behavior of that consulate personnel, are they like that for all services?

I got some info on applying passport and then visa afterward, still if you help me with good link, it will be super help.

Thanks,
Madhav

A friend of mine was in a similar situation to you but he decided to NOT get an indian passport for his child.

The reason for this is that currently your baby was born in the UK and is hence free from immigration control as long as he does not leave the country. Once he is 10 years old he can register as a British Citizen.
