Non-EU Child Queries - Unusual Situation...

Post by winder26 » Sat Jan 17, 2015 3:03 pm

Hi,

My wife has a young child from a previous marriage who is a non-EU citizen.
The child is outside of the EU at present.
My wife and I are resident in the UK. She has British Citizenship after ILR (Spouse Visa Route) whilst I was born here.
Is there an alternative route to the visa route with the income requirement etc to bring the child to the UK?
Does anyone know if it would be possible to do it through another EU country, for example?

Thank you

EU route is an option but it would mean proving that you, your wife and step child are settled in that country before then retuning to the UK. Depending on the age of the child this would include registering/attending school and at least one of you working. They also want to see evidence of you integrating so some families have shown gym memberships, joining the local church, mosque, etc and other activities/interests outside of work.

Do you not meet the financial requirement even if you combined your incomes?

Thanks for replying.
I'm a full-time University student with a student loan. I don't think they count that as income as it is a loan, though they do for Job Seekers allowance etc...

The only student income they consider are bursaries.
