Travelling to Mexico while EEA4 application is still pending

Post by Xuanyi » Tue Jan 27, 2015 1:36 pm

Hi all,

I am a Malaysian citizen married to an EU national who has since gained PR in this country. I have recently applied for my EEA4 PR card after my EEA2 RC expired on 27/11/14.
My timeline is as follows :-
4/11/14 = Sent EEA4 application by post
6/11/14 = Received letter of acknowledgement from HO
11/11/14 = Payment by cheque taken by HO
28/11/14 = Received email from HO to say that application will take 6 months to process
29/11/14 = Received COA
12/01/15 = Sent request form online for return of passports
22/01/15 = Received passports of EU spouse, my old passport with expired EEA2 RC and my current passport. I also receive a covering letter advising me to apply for a Family Permit from outside UK before coming back to the country.
I called HO and they said this is just an advice to 'ensure' that I will not be denied entry into UK. The guy told me that it all depends on the border officers.
My EU spouse and I will be travelling together and I will not have time to apply for any Family Permit while in Mexico as we will be constantly on the road to very remote places.
I just need some advice and assurance from people who have gone through the same predicament as what I will be going through. What do I have to show to Border officers/airline staffs to be allowed to fly out and into UK?
Any advice at all will all be GREATLY appreciated :?

Hi Xuanyi,

Can you not carry the COA that you have + marriage certificate? You will be travelling with your EU spouse I supposed so if need, he can be by your side when going through Border Control? The only problem might be boarding the plane as everytime I travel, I've been asked for my residence card so am not sure what happens if you travel with an expired one.

I have read other threads where people just carry along their marriage cert to prove that they are family members of an EU national and that seem to work at UK airports.

Best regards,

Zhonor

Thanks for your reply, Zhonor.
Yes, I will most definitely be bringing our Marriage Cert & COA. Hopefully, they will let me into the UK with that.
As for flying out to Mexico, I will be showing them an email from the Mexican Embassy to say that as a Malaysian citizen, I do not need a visa to visit the country. I hope that will do. I am not sure the Stupid staff is familiar with COA and such.
I am so nervous about this :(
