I got a job offer to work as temp for 3 months at employer X. A company called "Freelance Global" located in London says I should work under their umbrella company and then contract out with the employer X. I need to sign an agreement with the umbrella company and the employer X needs to sign an agreement with the umbrella company. Then "freelance global" will send it to the Home Office to get the visa.
I dont want to get ripped off and I need advice. Their application processing fee is £900 so that they can send my application to the Home office.
Basically, I am a non-Eu national and been offered a temp job for 3 months to work in London.
Any advice? Is it legal that umbrella company stuff? Is it best if I apply for a work permit instead of working under umbrella? Do they issue work permit for 3 months in the Uk?

Why is it a rip off?
Anyone having experience with umbrella companies please reply. I want to know if its legal. If its illegal, why is it illegal? What type of visas are issued for non-eu national working under umbrella companies?

It is definitely a rip-off since they are asking you for £900. No employer should ever ask the employee for a fee. Please read the stcky thread posted by the Site admin at the top of this forum -

I work for a Software Company which has filed for my work permit. They never asked for any kind of fee nor imposed restrictions on my employment. They are currently hiring candidates in Java, I would be happy to refer your CV.

what is is your current Visa status? and contract rate of your temp job?
What kind of temp job it is? I mean is it software or something else.
It would be easy to transfer work permit if you have contract in hand. But if they are asking £1000 as fee then you need to think about it.
