Travelling while British citizenship registration under cons

Post by newone » Wed Sep 19, 2007 2:43 pm

Hi All,

Any help would be much appreciated.

I am Indian national and ILR holder. I made application to register my son as a British Citizen under 1(3) 4 weeks back. Current status of application is still under consideration. Currently we got some emergency travel plans in couple of weeks to India and we will be staying in India till end of this year. My question is whether my son is allowed to travel on his Indian passport while his British Citizenship application under consideration and what is going to happen if its approved while we are in India during that time. Is it legal to travel back to UK with his Indian passport once registration is done.

I tried calling Indian embassy and also UK home office to check the legality..but no one got definite answer ....

Thanks

No problem at all him using his Indian passport, either to leave the UK or to return here.

Bear in mind that as soon as his registration as a British citizen is granted, his Indian citizenship is revoked.

If you get home and find his citizenship certificate in the mail, you should immediately return his Indian passport to the Indian High Commission for cancellation.
