I think I've read on this board that visaholders have been told that they are required to enter the UK within three months of the effective date, but this does not appear to be documented anywhere. Indeed, if it were a hard-and-fast rule, then the time limitation would be included on the entry clearance vignette -- and the only time limitation on the vignette is the expiry of the visa itself.

Six months, if no expiry date on the vignette.

Would it be possible to provide a citation for this in the policy statements or caseworker notes ? I thought that I looked quite carefully for this, and read through everything when I went through entry clearance, and so I find it very disturbing that there's a time limit for entry that is not otherwise indicated (at least where I could see it). Many thanks.

There is no set maximum time limits (reply from wpcustomers)

Hi All,

I got the mail/reply from wpcustomers@ind.homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk as below:

Thank you for your email.

In responce to your first question, there is no set maximum time limits within which you must enter the UK after gaining Entry Clearance however, if there is a substantial break before you enter the UK, it may have an effect if at a later stage you apply for Further Leave to Remain.

Your second point regarding Entry Clearance and the documents required to support this would be dealt with by UK Visas. If you wish to find out further information regarding this point of Entry Clearance, please contact UK Visas via
