Working Netherlands on UK Ancestry

Post by mrjooso » Wed Sep 19, 2007 4:45 pm

Hi there,

I'm wanting to know what the situation is with working in the Netherlands.
I am an Australian in the UK on a UK Ancestry Visa, however, my UK employer would like to contract me into Amsterdam for Aviation work. I will be getting paid by a UK company into a UK bank account.

Can i do this on my visa? Or do i still need a working permit??

Thanks for your info!

The rules changed lately.
Now there is something like an obligation to give a notification.
Let the company where you will be actually working investigate this, as they can be fined € 8.000 should they do things wrong.
The proper authority is at www.cwi.nl

If they want any help in this, they can contact me.
It will not be so difficult to find out, but I do not know the answer by heart.

Your U.K. visa will not give you any benefits in the Netherlands.

And not only that, you need to make sure that working in the Netherlands for a period of time will not prejudice your eligibility for Indefinite Leave to Remain or British citizenship further down the line. If these things are important.

Once you become a British citizen you will have the freedom to work elsewhere in Europe.

In addition it does not matter that you are getting paid by a UK company into a UK bank account, you will still be working illegally in the Netherlands if you work without a work permit!
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.
