when can i apply for extention of spouse visa?

hi,
my spouse visa expires in coming august 2015. need to extend for another 2.5 yrs. when can i apply. can i apply before 5 months it expire?

No. 28 days before the expiry date at the earliest.

Even if you were to technically apply 5 months before the expiry of the current visa, you would then need to apply for an additional visa before the expiry of that one as you wouldn't be able to complete 5 years which would be a waste of time and money.

If you received the visa outside the UK you can apply 28 days before your 30th month in the UK.
