Engish Language Requirement

Post by mijothomas » Tue Feb 24, 2015 12:27 am

Hi,

I know this question is been asked over and over, but 'am still not very clear with this so please pardon me asking this again.

1. My Case
I came to UK on T1 general in Aug 2008 and had my ILR in Aug 2013. While applying for ILR I was able to meet the english language requirement with my bachelors and masters listed in PBS calculator.

I'm now planning to apply for naturalization and is struggling to understand the english language requirement. To begin with, I have letter from my college, university saying that my Bachelors is taught in English. My Bachelors degree & masters degree is listed in PBS calculator.I have LIUK from my ILR and all original certificates. Would I still need the NARIC statement of comparability?

2. My Spouse
She came into UK in Feb 2009 as a T1 dependend and had her ILR same time as mine. Her bachelors and masters is listed in PBS calculator and she has the LIUK from ILR and has all original certificates. However she does't have any letter from univ or college. Would she need NARIC SOC?

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
-Tom

The degree certificate and a print out from the PBS calculator should suffice. The rules imply the degree should be deemed by NARIC to be comparable even if taught in the UK, as the PBS calculator is populated by NARIC, that should suffice.

My spouse was a dependend on T1 and the PBS calculator asks for these options:

How would you like to claim points for English language skills?
I am a national from a majority English speaking country
I have a qualification comparable to a UK Bachelor degree that was taught in English
I have passed an approved English language test
I have already proven my English language skills in a previous Tier 1 or HSMP application
I do not want to claim points for English language skills (your application will be refused, unless your assessment refers to a settlement application - see Help below)

In my case I can select 4 as I have proven that during my T1, but since my spouse was a dependend I don't think she has proved it even though we have provided the mark statements etc(maybe I'm wrong?). In that case should I go for NARIC?

She does't have any letters from her Uni or college, just the original degree certificates (Masters and Bachelors). Do you reckon that would be enough with option 2?

I can't see the options either.
The link just asks which Tier 1/2/4/5 you applying under.
