Yes, I do believe that your clock will be reset. And your wife's will start from the new application. Also your wife might need to travel back to home country in order to apply for the Tier 2. Please check on that. I am not very sure of that.

It will count if you are going for the 10 year long residency route which will be hard to achieve unless you go into do a Phd or something else.

Best way to deal with this is to make your wife leave UK and go back to her country and apply for a Tier 2 General visa while you are still employed. Once she gets the visa and is back you can resign and switch to Tier 2 Dependent.

If I am not wrong you can do an in country switch from Tier 2 General to Tier 2 PBS dependent (just not the other way around).

- Yes, your ILR clock will be reset.
- Your spouse will have to apply for Tier 2 from her home country. However, you can switch to her dependent from within UK.

Thanks Moonlight55,

Also can you please let me know

1. Is it necessary to have a representative registered with the home office for this type of application (same day application), or can I make it myself?
2. Is it necessary to inform my current sponsorer of this visa switch? or can I inform him once this done.

1. I think you can do it yourself provided you are able to get an appointment. It's not easy to get a slot.

2. It's up to you. Some organisations have policies around change of visas status. Depends on your current company policy.

Can someone please let me know, how to take premium appointments for the switching from tier 2 general to tier 2 dependent for 2 members in a family (my self and my daughter). Will it be 1 appointment per person or single appointment for both of us. Cannot find the option of taking a single appointment for both of us on the website. In case of single appointment, not sure how it would work, as my daughter is my dependent currently.
