UK CITIZEN married to egyptian - VISA & 1st baby ADVICE

Post by aminamo » Sat Sep 22, 2007 2:46 pm

Hi to all,
would really appreciate any advice given. Im a uk citizen who is married to a egyptian man. we married in egypt, and im currently living in egypt.

The settlement form for my husband says about a sponsor, who can be the sponsor? do they have to be in uk and do they have to be family?

I dont think I qualify to be a sponsor as im not working, as im pregnant with our first child. He has enough savings to last until he finds a job in uk, and I will eventually get a job too, once baby is born and off breastfeeding.

I own my own home, so accommodation is fine, also my parents would also let us stay there until he finds work. Hes a qualified doctor in egypt, and he going to do more exams in order for his qualifications are recognised in uk, so he can work as a physician while in uk.

Is there any way to apply for my husband to come uk, or do i need to show im in employment, as i no they ask for bank statments etc. ??

Im planning to have my baby in UK, due april 29th. but what if our child was born in egypt. Would my baby be a british citizen? im 21 and its our first child. I think it would be easier to be born in UK, but i really want my husband to be there for the birth.

im feeling very stressed and worried about this, and doctors has told me its not good for the baby. Just dont no where to go for advice.

would i have to wait until baby is born and old enough, then get a job in uk, so i show employment and money coming in. then do i apply for a husband settlement visa? this is an option which i was told, but thought there might be an other option. is there??

thank u.

Since you are 21 you can be the sponsor.

Your husband can apply for the 'Spouse Visa' using the VAF-2 and there is no need to show that you are currently in employement. You will however have to show that you have adequate resources to support yourself and your husband and will not be a burden to the state and pubic funds. So, the bigger the amount you have at your disposal, the better. Already having a house of your own is also a good point as it covers accommodation.
but what if our child was born in egypt. Would my baby be a british citizen?
How did you obtain your citizenship and where were you born?

as for your child it will be a british citizen as long as you are not a british citizen born by decent

as for sponsor then you are the sponsor for your husband just have house deeds and bank statements ready no need to be in employment just good cash in the bank should do the job

maybe you should have the brith in egypt so the child can have dual nationality that would be a optin for you to consider

may god help you

I'm not sure that Egyptian citizenship would be an "asset" in life.

And I wouldn't have thought Egyptian birthplace would help either (more security checks later in life etc.).

I was born and raised in britain, to welsh parents, but fell for an egyptian. so im a british citizen, not by decent.

dual nationality have came to my mind, but to be honest, its easier to get visa's here in egypt. was no problem for me, so wouldnt think it would be a problem for the baby too.

Prefer to raise my child in Uk though. And its also better work for my husband, as salary here, even for a qualified doctor is ridiculous.

how much do you think is enough to show in your bank account to support us? in GBP?

Also is it possible to apply for a british passport for the baby in egypt? or do I need to be in Uk to apply?

Thanks for all advice  [/quote]

Amin, please make sure that you read the 'advice to overseas graduates' on the GMC website. Its extremely difficult for overseas doctors (more so for non EU nationals) to find employment in the UK currently due to the precarious state of the NHS & subsequent lack of funding for new medical posts. Following the recent shakeup of training, many doctors, both British & foreign, have found themselves jobless & loads of them have emigrated to places like Oz. I am not trying to dishearten you but it would be really difficult for your husband to find a job of any description without UK experience, especially as there are many already in the fray with relevant UK experience. Changes have also been made to the system which places overseas doctors with experience at a distinct disadvantage to local graduates (the foundation programme being a case in point) Your husband should psychologically prepare himself for a long and frustrating wait, possibly for a couple of years or more, before he gets that elusive first job . More importantly, you should make sure that you have adequate funds to cover yourself whilst your husband is looking for a job.

If a well paid job with decent career prospects for your husband is the primary reason behind your move back to the UK, I would definitely recommend Australia or New Zealand as an alternative as people seem to be getting jobs there with relative ease even now. However, you'd have to move quickly as there is a possibility that the market there would be saturated pretty soon.

If your child is born in Egypt, he or she will likely be a British citizen "by descent". You can obtain a British passport for the child and it is also advised to obtain a British style birth certificate.

You should understand that the child may well be an Egyptian citizen also, on account of having an Egyptian father. You need to be careful about Egyptian law which may well give exclusive rights to the father in case of any marriage breakdown and if that is the case, your child being British would offer no protection.
