In any case, my understanding is that if we've had a BRP in the past, they will just use those details. It all seems to be an exercise to make their database full proof. Any thoughts anyone?

In the past biometrics were not used as a means to verify/confirm the identity of those applying for naturalisation. From now onwards they will be. I understand this to be a additional step to strengthen identity verification. Just to clarify, for them to actually use biometrics for this, they will take the new biometrics provided as part of the AN application & compare it against what they already hold (BRP). So it's not a case of using old biometrics, as mentioned above.

Couldn't put it any better myself. People are getting upset as they see others getting their approvals quickly. But at the end of the day it will take however long UKVI decide it's going to take them. So @tulip don't think yourself any less and just try your best to relax. At least that way when it's all approved and you get your confirmation it will be a nice suprise.

They should have taken the payment slip with payment details and send that off to UKBA. They don't actually process the payment there (as far as I'm aware).

Ok, my approval letter says "..please contact local authority within 21 days..". I know different local authorities operate differently but be mindful of the 21 days. It won't hurt to give them a call, if only to put your mind at ease. You have nothing to lose really. Good luck anyway.

I've made application for naturalization through Hackney council since 30th of March 2014, received knowledge letter dated 4th of April and my cheque was cashed a week letter. as I decided to find out why It was taking so long , I called the HO in October 6 months later, only to be told that I was sent a letter dated the 26th of August requesting me to attend an English language test in September, a letter that I did not receive , I went on to leave my phone number with a promise of a call in 48 hours. it did not happened again I called , just to receive the same promise as a response. however this time I was left a voicemail from my caseworker suggesting that she received my request and will probably send me another appointment letter. I received a letter a few days letter, which confirmed what she said , but also suggesting that I may not to go though that interview but if needed I will receive a letter in due course or just the certificate, therefore I should check if any of my details mentioned at the back of that letter are correct, as it would appear on the certificate , if not then I should amend and send back. That was the last I've heard from her. I made a complaint in December , only to be told its under consideration, I got my local MP to get in touch , but the same response came back :We are doing more checks. Today its now 1 year since I've made that application , I don't know what to do anymore I'm exhausted and lost all hope.
this is very traumatizing and such a let down, they failed to contact me as they promised once one application is over 6 months
