Divorcing soon after getting citizenship

Hi,

My sister is a UK citizen and moved to the UK after getting married to a Pakistani man. This man got his citizenship earlier this year and is planning to divorce my sister now two months after getting his UK passport. The reason given is his financial instability rather than any fault by his wife or 2 year old son.

It seems that he married only to get UK citizenship. Is there any recourse available to challenge his citizenship?

To the best of my knowledge, financial instability has never been grounds for divorce. Perhaps I may have misunderstood the grounds. Can you explain more fully?

After settlement, the person is not considered to be dependent on anybody and applies for citizenship in their own right. So, to the best of my knowledge, his citizenship can not be challenged on the grounds of divorce. Had it occurred while he had Limited Leave to Remain, a divorce could have led to the revocation of the leave, but not after ILR.

Once ILR is obtained (let alone citizenship) this frees an individual from any visa restrictions that may have applied previously.

The individual is no longer dependent on the spouse after ILR.

Citizenship comes after ILR and unfortunately there isn'the much that can be done at this stage.
