I was wondering if anyone on here knows of a reliable immigration solicitor in Manchester that I can consult, preferably someone who doesn't cost the earth to just talk to ...

Cheers.

So confusing ..

Post by Enkido » Fri Oct 12, 2007 1:09 pm

Finally I managed to see an immigration lawyer to ask about the possibility that if I follow the ppron method it might take a long time to after my current visa expiry .. I wanted to know what could I do ..

Well I got a very strange response .. the lawyer said that she knows everything about the British Ntionality Act 1891 and it is NOT possible to do it!!

I tried to explain to her about Annex B to chapter 18, para 7.1 but she won't listen, instead she started talking about naturalisation by descent (British Nationality Act 1981 (c. 61) Part I British Citizenship Acquisition after commencement). The last bit has nothing to do with me at all (I checked that afterwards)

After much arguing she said that I could go on and do it to waste time and money but it won't work.

I have printed and read all the relevant law about the ppron and I know it can be done but I am not so sure now

Yes. She obviously doesn't know everything!

Nationality law is VERY complicated. I doubt there are ten people in the world who know it all.

You have no advantage with going through a solicitor with this application.

That's why i never listen to Some solicitors unless it is a criminal case.
my divorce lawyer once told me complete bull and I wasted my money on nothing so i sacked her and went alone and got more money.
another once told me that i would be detained for overstaying 3 months or more etc.. and i proved her wrong i got what i wanted.
another time a lawyer told me that the most i would pay for drunk and desorderly was £10 i ended up paying £180 etc.......
I have no trust in many Solicitors they are a waste of time. they give you high hopes and suck your money and when there is a real chance they give you the opposite no hope.

There are however good ones and you need to look hard for them

I agree that is why i edited my post. there are many people who are good but sadly with many they only care about money. you see some would not even give free advice.

I find everyone on here to be very good and helpful and wish everyone else were the same.

What annoys me most is the ATTITUDE .. she talked to me like a total idiot who doesn't understand a thing about the law. I suppose it is a problem with all self-righteous professionals who think they know all.

I really appreciate the advice I get on here as well as peoples opinions and ideas .. it is much nicer and cleverer.

You learn about the method by reading the posts and all relevant material on the bia site about the regulations surrounding it. Solicitors are just like any group of people, everyone had their own take, speciality and approach to things. She might think you have gone mad, afterall the approach isn't common knowledge. She might be one of those staight and narrow people who go strictly by the rules and don't understand the art of application presentation so what do you want else to say about it. She doesn't like the approach or believe in it or feel comfortable with it. It is always down to you to figure it out. That's why HO doesn't care if you got a corrupt solicitor, you are always responsible for your own application at the end of the day.
