please help me I am VERY confused about Visa.

Post by jamie92 » Wed Sep 26, 2007 8:33 pm

I am a freshman of 15 years and would love to go to belgium.
I don't understand any of the concepts about getting a visa.
where to get it and how to apply.
I wonder if I can get a travel agent somehow to help me with visa,passport.. (etc....) but aren't those ALOT OF MONEY ?!
I also would like to go to highschool there.
because I am fairly fluent in nederlands and have friends over there who I can stay with so it would be illrelavant to go through an exchange program because also my parents can't afford to have someone else stay in my house.
please help me
thank you so much !

my email is..

Hi Jamie,

I think it might be sensible for you to wait until you have finished Highschool and perhaps to consider University in Belgium instead? Have you ever been to Belgium? Sometimes our ideals are a little different to the reality.

You should also try and research what sort of careers are have decent opportunities in the job market, not just in Belgium but across Europe.

Remember, many people in Europe are multi-lingual and language will play a large part in your future job prospects if you do plan to move to Europe.

Good luck for the future.

Kind regards,

Shan

.

What country are you coming from ..?

Often, for younger students like yourself, it's best to have your school and another school make an agreement on an exchange.

As a minor, there are serious considerations about your travel.

Who will you stay with? Who will sponsor you?

It sounds like you met someone on the internet and want to go be with them. Not a wise choice to go meet someone abroad without taking precautions.
best wishes

Jamie, is this something you have really thought long and hard about and have you done any research on Belgium? Moving to another country is not as easy as it sounds and there are considerations such as the fact that you will be moving away from the support structure of your family. It might not be such a big thing to you right now but you don't realise how much you depend on that structure until you don't have it.

Do your parents know about your 'friends' in Belgium and do they know you are wanting to move? This really should be discussed with your parents and with a guidance councillor at your school. Together, you might be able to find some suitable options for you.

Generally, citizenship is not a quick or easy process regardless of where you move. Have you done any research into what skills are required in Belgium and whether they fit in with your future potential studies? Again, your school guidance councillor should be able to help you find this information.

Why Belgium of all European countries? It's possibly the most boring country on the face of the Earth and has worse weather than the UK. If you're going to move to Europe at least aim for somewhere interesting and sunny like Spain or Italy.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.
