Dependent

Post by TinTinTin » Tue Oct 09, 2007 10:57 pm

Dear discussion board members,

I've got a query regarding bringing my wife's mother to the UK.

I'm a PR and my wife is a dependent PR (effectively my dependent). The question I have is can I bring my mother-in-law on a dependent visa to the UK ? ( she has been on a tourist visa earlier to the UK, when I was on WP). What are the rules/guidelines for someone to be here on a dependent visa ?

Any help much appreciated.

cheers

Let's just correct your statement. Now that you have Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR, NOT PR), your wife is no longer your dependent, and her ILR status is not dependent on you. So, you can't really talk about her as "ILR dependent", since that doesn't exist. It's only for visa-holders that a dependent category is used.

...Not all that important, but let's not think your situation would affect hers any longer.

As for your mother in-law, as per vinny's post, you need to meet certain requirements. Is her mother over 65 and alone (i.e. no other children)? Is she working or being supported by you? Are there any compassionate, exceptional mitigating circumstances?
