Mother in Law Travelling to UK

Post by apb1919 » Thu May 21, 2015 10:15 pm

Hi all,

I have been looking through the forums and my appologies if this has been covered else where however i couldn't see a topic quite as to my query and it is important i don't give wrong advice to the Mother In Law!

My wife is thai and we live in the UK she has a settlement visa here, we have two children one has a thai passport and one has a uk and thai passport. I myself am a UK national.

My Mother in Law is Thai and holds a thai passport however she has resided in Germany for 9 years + and holds a Permanent residence card for 'a family member of the union'

She is wanting to come over to the UK for my wife's birthday in two weeks and as such my question is this.

Can she travel to the UK on her PR card from Germany and her Thai passport if she is accompanied by her youngest daughter (5 years old) only. Her husband cannot travel due to work commitments.

From what i understand she could travel with her husband on this PR card and passport but does this apply to travelling with her youngest daughter?

Her daughter is German and holds a full German passport.

Everyone is a little worried and confused as to if she can travel like this, therefore if she can if someone wouldn't mind putting a couple of lines as to why i.e. under what legislation that i can include in a letter for the UKBA should she have any issues when she lands that would be appreciated.

I understand 1/2 the battle may be getting on the plane and as such she will translate the letter to German in the hopes that this helps.

Thanks in advance,
