Non-EU benefits

Post by heyheyheyguys » Sat May 23, 2015 6:56 pm

One of my friends who's on a dependent visa just lost her job and has no money. Her husband is very stingy and won't give her any. Can she claim any benefits?

No as she's not entitled to Public funds. She may be able to claim contribution based Job Seekers allowance.

So technically her sponsor - her husband - has to support her. If he doesn't what means does she have?

There are a lot of stingy spouses out there, but the Government isn't going to take on the responsibility by paying benefits if the spouse is perfectly able to support the family, albeit they may be reluctant to do so. :| I assume she isn't without food or a home, but lacks personal spending money?
