Sponsoring my Grandma - options/Family Ties Proof

Post by styla » Wed Jun 03, 2015 1:10 am

Hi guys,

I would really appreciate some help on this matter.

I am a German Passport Holder living in the UK. I have been in the UK for the last 8 years and work in the Financial Services sector earning approximately £30k (not sure if this info is relevant).

Anyways I currently live with my parents, my mums a housewife and dad's a cab driver (self-employed) earning approximately 16k.

My grandma is 63 years old and her husband recently passed away and she's effectively all alone in Pakistan. Although she has 2 daughter's there living in pakistan but not with her they are not financially stable enough to care for her.

I am wondering whether there's any possibility for me to sponsor her and get her to the UK so she can stay with us? My understanding is that due to Dad's low wage he would not be able to do this, and it would be best I sponsor her?

However I am not sure what the best method/process would be to get her to the UK so she can live with us? I would be more then happy to provide her with accomadation with us as well as cover any medical bills and get her private health care etc.

Could anybody please provide some guidance? I am more then happy to provide any additional information you may need. I have never done a such thing before so am completely clueless as to the process and additionally whether I would be better suited then my dad to sponsor her?

And additionally what the best process would be and if there's anything I should be aware of?

She's all alone and is really upset, any help in the matter would be really appreciated.

Thanks so much guys.

Kind Regards,

Zesh

You could either apply for the dependant family visa which the uk Immigration have strict criteria or if your a German citizen residing in the uk then you are effectively using treaty rights and best way would be to use the EU route which is easier to do since you're not British.

https://www.gov.uk/family-permit/eligibility
See the link ... you can clearly call your grandma to the uk under eu law here to the uk

Best part is that the costs are very low .. no hassle of waiting months for processing

Thanks so much for your reply Suraj, can you please provide some more guidance as to which route this would class as, looking at the website I am slightly confused?

Would this class as - the family member or ‘extended’ family member of an EEA national ?
And then subsequently it would class as a Dependent grandparent right?

Now how would I go about proving dependence?
If I start sending her 50% of her living expenses on a monthly basis for 6months-1 year would that help ?
Could you please provide some additional guidance buddy that can help to prove dependence, it would really help? Also if there is a letter you are aware of I can edit and apply using that would help so much.

Thanks so much for all your guidance so far Suraj really appreciate it.

Also is the cost of application free the EEA route ? These are the options I selected:

Also do you think I would be better of sponsoring her or my parents as she's my mums mother?

If my parents would be better off then would Dad's low income as such getting some form of income support be an issue?

Are you a German citizen resident in the UK or a dual German/British citizen?

Likewise, are your parents German citizens or dual British citizens?

It would be pretty straightforward if your parents are German citizens resident in the UK. In that case, they only need to demonstrate family ties. No minimum salary requirements as you will be governed by EU laws in this regards, not UK immigration law.

My parents are both German Citizens as am I, just german citizens living in the UK.

So I guess if my parents apply that helps then as they can demonstrate a stronger tie.

Now in terms of demonstrating the tie, does the below approach seem correct:

- 1. My Grandmother is my mums mother of course so that in itself carries weight!
- 2. We occasionally send her money to support her, but we can do this more regularly say on a monthly basis, how much is the sort of recommended amount, is it 50% of her living expenses? And also how long does it need to be for to demonstrate a tie in your opinion, 6months or 1 year or so?
-3. She's got daughters in pakistan that are unable to support her due to not being financially stable and she's at the age of 63 living by herself as her husband passed away so she needs someone to care for her, as such we feel that she can live with us and we can take care of her, does that point add any value?

Is there anything else I am missing, or would these things be enough to put in the application? Are there maybe any additional pieces of evidence/things I should state or add to increase the chance of success?

Thanks a lot guys, really appreciate the help.

I think the fact that your parents are EEA citizens in the UK simplifies matters considerably. But I'm not very conversant with EEA Regulations. I suggest reposting this thread (or requesting the mods to move this thread) to the EEA route forum.

In the meanwhile, some links that may be of help
