Driving me nuts, pls help

Post by WinstonS » Fri Jun 12, 2015 4:37 am

This is so confusing!

I'm an Australian national with IlR. My son who is now 15 has been attending boarding school in Canada for years. I divorced from his mother years ago, she came to the UK and apparently now has british citizenship.

I have sole custody of the boy, pay all his expenses and schooling and unfortunately his mum hasn't had anything to do with him for a long time.

He's been getting in trouble at school and I now feel the best thing for him would be to come here and live with me. As he has no living relatives in Canada I figured it would be pretty straight forward. What I can't work out is whether or not we're exempt from the financial requirement or what appendix needs to be filled out. I've looked at the guidance and it's typically vague.

If anybody can shed light on this it would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks for your time.

Rather than being exempt, you have to show adequate maintenance and accommodation - http://www.immigrationboards.com/immigr ... 85667.html and http://www.immigrationboards.com/immigr ... t6227.html

You need to complete forms, VAF4A - https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... /VAF4A.pdf, Appendix 1 - https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... vaf4a1.pdf and SU07/12 - https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... orm_12.pdf don't forget to include proof that you have sole responsibility of the child.
