American staying in Ireland for over 90 day

Post by tertib » Mon Jun 29, 2015 9:43 pm

My daughter, American recent college graduate living in United States, accepted a position as a part-time au pair in Ireland from 8/2015 thru 5/2016. She was preparing to apply for a working holiday visa but when I called the Irish Embassy in Washington DC to clarify the process, they told me that she does not need a VISA because she is American. They said she should just register at the GNIB when she gets there. Is this true? The info on the website conflicts with this - it appears that she must have a VISA and register at GNIB. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It would be very strange if she, an American citizen, were allowed to work in the UK without getting any form of visa! I guess the Working Holiday Authorization is the right one.

I would continue your research and talk to the Embassy again. You could drop them a line via their contact form: https://www.dfa.ie/irish-embassy/usa/contact-us/.
