Student visa

Post by rromeo » Wed Jul 01, 2015 9:57 pm

Hey there..
I am living in Ireland and am a naturalised irish citizen. I am writing to ask about my son who will be travelling to study at Czech Republic. He is currently a non-eu national dependent on me. I wanted to know if he needs to apply for long-term student visa?

NB 1-(i am confused bcos someone told me that a family member of EU national doesnt require a visa to travel in the EU)
2-(my son doesnt have EU family card yet)

Just another question..say if he does need to apply for a visa..is it imperative for him to acquire health insurance? He holds a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC blue card)...

Any help/opinions/past experience/advise would be really appreciated.

To benefit as a family member of eu citizen (you), your son should under 21, or if over 21 must be dependant on you.
Also, you must be present or accompany him to the eu country he wants to move to. Also, you must excercise treaty rights in that country ie work, self employed or self sufficient.

You must be present in that country with him all the time.

If you cannot fit into the above criteria, then he will be just like any other person from outside eu/eea.
