How to apply for work permission

hello... I would like to know the process of applying for work permission after fresh claim has been pending for year...what are documents required... Can the dependent apply for it or only the main applicant is eligible.? How long does it take and i heard that if they grant...only allowed to do certain jobs...can you kindly tell which jobs are allowed?
