Didn't get any BRP document with the VISa

Post by mimi16 » Tue Aug 18, 2015 10:44 am

Hi,
One of my relative is planning to visit UK for a month. They have applied for UK visa from Kolkata, India. The visa gets the approval and they have received the visa documents from Delhi. But they found that they didn't receive any BRP document i.e. the ZIP code from where they need to collect the BRP from UK, with the visa documents. Can you please tell me what is the procedure to get that one? Please its urgent.

Thanks,
Mimi

BRPs are residence permits, they are not issued to visitors

Hi Manci..She is going for tier2 dependent visa.. and her visa is valid for one month only as her husband is also returning from UK on next month. Is that the reason for not getting the BRP document from consolate?
Please reply.

Thanks,
Mimi

with a PBS dependant visa (valid for 30 days) she should be given the address of the Post Office in the UK where she can collect her BRP from.

If she didn't refer to this post:

manci, exactly that is the point I am wondering. She didn't received any document with the zipcode where she needs to collect the BRP.
Can you please tell me what should be the next process? Where should we contact for this?

Yes, that is the reason. BRPs are for those "who are granted leave to enter the UK for more than 6 months". She has a visa that will only allow her remain in the UK for 1 month.

Contact the ECO at the local deputy high commission and ask why the applicant has not been given details of the Post Office (in UK to collect the BRP) when the applicant has applied for and been granted leave as a PBS dependant.
Life isn't fair, but you can be!

Would you please show where it says that a dependant of a PBS will be issued with a BRP even if their visa is for 6 months or less. I can't find it.

Petaltop - all these people (who are staying longer than 6 months on work or dependent status) now only get a 1-month visa in the passport and then they collect their BRP (which is routinely late and a crap system). The BRP then gives them leave to remain in the UK for the length of the CoS or whatever. The stamp in the passport, therefore, is totally misleading. This will be very confusing to employers. It's a terrible shambles. We have a Tier 5 person here for 1 year - her visa in her passport says 1 month and she's obliged to collect a BRP within that month. So far she's been to the relevant Post Office 4 times - still not there. Appalling system! The sooner we get back to the old system the better.

The Station Agent. Did you miss this part where it seems her visa is in line with her husbands visa?

They won't. It is an EU law that PM Blair signed the UK up to in 2002(?) Most EU leaders signed their countries up to it as EU wants to keep track of which immigrants are in EU countries and also use it to stop illegals in the EU. UK is also using these BRPs to check who has to be billed for using the NHS: EUs and their families come under different NHS checking system.

Look - until very recently you used to get a visa in your passport in line with the CoS (let's say 3 years long). Now you get 1 month in your passport and your BRP replaces the visa for the rest of the time. Get it? Bugger all to do with Tony Blair - this is a new system. And it's crap.

That's how they did it for my partners one year work permit in Germany, single entry Schengen visit visa, trip to auslanderbehorde to exchange it for the WP proper (no cards then) within a month.
